all about

SPECTOR Project’s, is a collection of first person stories from the artworld. These are experiences that tell who we are, how we got here and what goes on while we do what we do. The art world is not easily defined. From the outside it is foreign and quirky, with ideas that separate it from all else. Inside, the makers, sellers, reviewers, administrators, curators, and academics coexist and work in harmony with completely different agendas. In it’s hugeness it is ultimately rooted in self-expression and kept alive by the thrust of people who need to create.┬áNew stories are ongoing.

SPECTOR Projects/Gallery began in 1999 with the mission to create an environment that could nurture the careers and present the work of emerging local talent. In 2006, after seven years of jockeying Philadelphia’s young artists into the spotlight, SPECTOR Gallery became SPECTOR Projects.

Now, without four walls and a permanent location but with greater flexibility and possibility, SPECTOR lives and grows in the ever changing art world. is an ongoing anthology published by SPECTOR Projects since 2006. It’s mission is to demystify the art world through first person stories.
